What are Deadlocks ?
The bolt or latch becomes dead when the lock is locked.
This stops the bolt or latch from being retracted back into the lock.
There are two types 1:deadbolt 2: Dead latch
Single Cylinder Deadbolt
- Key on the outside, turn snib on the inside
- Lock and unlock from inside without a key
- Easy to see if the door is locked or unlocked
- Faster and safer exit in a fire or emergency
- Does not trap an intruder inside if you return home
- Physical security is the same as double cylinder
A single side deadbolt allows you to lock the door without a key from the inside.
Vertical = unlocked
Horizontal = locked
You can just look to see the door is locked
Double Cylinder Deadbolt
- Key required on both sides of the door
- Stronger protection if glass is near the lock
- Someone cannot smash glass and turn a snib
- Slower to exit in an emergency (needs the key)
- Good option for high-security or commercial doors
- Same physical bolt strength as single cylinder
A deadbolt only locks when you deliberately turn the key or snib, it will not lock by itself if the door slams shut in the wind.
This makes deadlocks ideal for front doors, back doors, side doors, garages and commercial entrances.
