Lock Rekeying Change Your keys with Without Replacing the locks.
What is Lock Rekeying?
Rekeying a lock means we change the internal pins so your old keys no longer work (Lock Change).
We then cut new keys that operate the lock.
It’s the cheapest and fastest way to stop old keys from working without having to buy and fit brand new locks.
In most cases, rekeying is the smarter and cheaper option.
We can also match several locks so they all work on the same key (as long as the key fits the lock barrels).
What is the cost?
Service Call-Out Fee
Normal hours (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm) $80
Lock Rekeying per lock $45
First lock includes 2 keys (extra key $5 each)
We charge a straightforward flat rate per lock.
Minor issues with the lock are fixed as part of the job at no extra cost.
When Should You do Lock Rekeying?
You should consider Lock Rekeying if:
- You’ve lost keys or had them stolen
- You’ve just moved into a new home or office
- A tenant, housemate, or employee has left
- You’ve gone through a breakup or divorce
- You want better control over who has keys
- You simply don’t know who still has copies of your keys
Lock Rekeying gives you peace of mind that only the people you choose can get in.
What to look out for?
That $25 call-out is a classic marketing trick used by a lot of fake locksmiths (especially the dodgy ones).
What’s really going on
Almost no genuine, licensed locksmith can afford to work for a real $25 call-out.
Here’s why:
- Fuel + vehicle costs
- Time to drive to the job
- Insurance, licence, tools, phone, etc.
A real $25 call-out would mean they lose money just turning up.
How these companies actually work
They advertise “$25 Call-Out – No Hidden Fees” to get the phone to ring. Once they arrive (or sometimes even on the phone), the real prices appear:
- “Emergency fee”
- “After-hours fee”
- “Complicated lock”
- “Special tools needed”
- etc.
This is very common in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Many of these operators are the ones with bad reviews about being charged $400–$800 for a simple lockout.
Screen Door Locks
Security Screen Door Locks
Security screen door locks usually come with two different types of lock barrels (also called cylinders).
The smaller, cheaper barrels that are fitted as standard are very easy to pick or force open — especially after a few years of use. They offer very little real security and cannot be matched to the keys of your other house locks (such as deadlocks). In most cases, these original barrels are not worth keeping.
The better option is to replace the barrel with a higher-quality, more secure cylinder. These stronger barrels can be keyed alike to your existing house locks, so you only need one key for the front door, back door, and security screen door.
Upgrading the barrel is not expensive, yet it makes a big difference to the actual security of your home.
Security screen door locks get used many times every day. Depending on the brand and how heavily they are used, they typically last between 8 and 14 years before the lock body or handles start to wear out and need replacing.
If your screen door lock is getting loose, stiff, or hard to lock, it’s usually time to either replace the barrel or fit a complete new lock.
